Dear Utah,

My name is Nicki Nielsen and I've worked as YWCA Utah's Housing Coordinator for over two years. I help survivors access safe and stable housing while offering temporary financial housing assistance. Something I didn't realize about domestic violence is how vital housing is to ending the cycle of abuse and control. Domestic violence is the number one cause of homelessness in Utah, which is often overlooked. I wish more Utahns knew about the Housing First model and how implementing Housing First principles can positively impact survivors and their families.
