FROM ANONYMOUS IN SALT LAKE COUNTY

This year, I watched some public meetings during the legislative session. At the meetings I attended, I wished that more people from Utah and my community would watch the meetings, too. It was very eye opening for me to see the way that legislators talk about victims and the perspective they have when discussing new bills and how the bills would (or in the legislators' minds, would not) have any harmful impacts.

There were good bills that could have positively changed lives for survivors of domestic violence that were not approved and many harmful bills that were passed without any pause for concern. After the meetings were over, I often felt that if more people were in these meetings and paying attention to their legislators, they would find that they did not feel represented by them.

Domestic Violence survivors and victims and all the vulnerable people and communities in Utah deserve better and we have the responsibility and ability to require more from the leaders of our state.
