From M.M. In salt lake county

Dear Utah,

I am a survivor of domestic abuse. As a well-educated, upper-middle-class woman, who was not financially dependent on my abuser, I felt a lot of shame around my experience which meant that I suffered in silence for over 10 years. It wasn't until having children that I was able to make the tough choice to leave. Without the resources available through the Murray City police department I wouldn't have known what options were available to me in order to protect myself and my children. This is a problem many in our community are facing and the shameful stigma around it keeps a lot of this ugliness in the dark. We must share our stories in order to help one another and to destigmatize what it means to be a survivor of domestic violence.
